It's beautiful here : IBIZA
Ibiza Bohemia by Renu Kashyap | ASSOULINE
Hey friends,
If you know me, you know just how bananas I sounded a few years ago when I started going to Ibiza every opportunity I could. I have never even seen cocaine (just in the movies) and I’ve been in bed by 9pm since I was about 13yo so Ibiza was not anywhere on the list of places I want to visit.
That is, until the June 2017 issue of Condé Nast Traveller and an article, with this photo, about northern Ibiza and her secluded, wild beaches.
Oh, hello beautiful.
I tore it out, stuck it on my wall (childhood habits die hard) and a month later was booking my virgin trip to the island.
Now, fast forward to 3 years worth of trips, she is my absolute favourite place in the entire Mediterranean.
Here’s my five [non-party/non-druggy/relax-y/in-bed-by-9-y] things to do in Ibiza.
1. Beach
There are so many different beaches to choose from so do your research before you go. The island is not enormous so you can hit 2-3 beaches in one day if that’s your thing. I prefer to spend the day at just one so my fave to do that on is Cala d’Hort.
Overlooking Es Vedrà with sun loungers, a beautiful bay for swimming and some of the best food I’ve had at the restaurant El Carmen.
Also worth a visit:
Cala Xarraca - best beach for snorkelling
Cala Benirràs - best for sunsets
Cala Olivera - away from the crowds
Cala Mastella - reserve a table at El Bigotes (+34 650 79 76 33)
Las Salinas - best for party people
Aguas Blancas - for naturalists with no body image issues
Ses Balandres - if you fancy a hike to the beach (wear trainers)
2. Eat
Cala Bonita on the east of the island has incredible food and is right on the beach.
La Granja is a farmstead set among Ibiza’s pastoral inlands and run in collaboration with Friends of a Farmer, an international association devoted to the cultivation of art, crops and inner gardens.
Read about how they have brought the old farm back to life here.
“Under the guidance of La Granja’s master farmer Andy Szymanowicz and a creative community of various disciplines, fertile soil is sown for the free-flowing exchange of energy and restorative growth. Signed and labeled garden plots encourage open access and self-guided tours, and guests can learn about biodynamic agriculture through a series of workshops, classes and community-based projects.”
Also worth a visit:
El Bigotes - so popular the King of Spain was turned away because he did not have a reservation
The Giri Café - best for romantic dining
Los Enamorados - best for sunset aperitivo
El Chiringuito - best for breakfasts
3. Sleep
Nine beautifully decorated rooms with the comfiest beds, adults only, roof terrace yoga, SUP, massages, phenomenal breakfasts and her own private beach - Los Enamorados.
The best sunsets in Ibiza imho.
Also worth a stay:
Nobu Hotel - if money is no object
Finca Can Martí - eco agriturism hotel
La Granja - stay for interior porn and the instagram photos
Atzaró Hotel - the spa is divine
Hacienda Na Xamena - for canoodling couples
4. Market
The Sunday Hippy Market at San Juan is my favourite.
Street food; incredible coffee; jewellery; clothes and live music. All year round, every Sunday from 10:00-16:00.
5. Shopping
Los Enamorados have a concept store as part of the hotel which has vintage + designer items, sourced from all over the world. Beautiful furniture; jewellery; hats; bags; clothing and lots more to browse. They stock sunglasses and bags by one of my favourite Australian designers, Lucy Folk.
