Hi friends,
You’re looking at my current work wardrobe, on rotation, modelled by a rather dashing Mr Connery. I have temporarily disabled the camera on my laptop too. There are silver linings to this virus everywhere.
Now if you, like me, needed a good laugh after this last week, this video may just do the trick.
Another week of fabulous things that caught my eye coming up.
1. Love; Loss and Grief
Loved this post by Elizabeth Gilbert on grief.
Grief… happens upon you, it’s bigger than you.
There is a humility that you have to step into, where you surrender to being moved through the landscape of grief by grief itself. And it has its own timeframe, it has its own itinerary with you, it has its own power over you, and it will come when it comes. And when it comes, it’s a bow-down. It’s a carve-out. And it comes when it wants to, and it carves you out — it comes in the middle of the night, comes in the middle of the day, comes in the middle of a meeting, comes in the middle of a meal. It arrives — it’s this tremendously forceful arrival and it cannot be resisted without you suffering more… The posture that you take is you hit your knees in absolute humility and you let it rock you until it is done with you. And it will be done with you, eventually. And when it is done, it will leave. But to stiffen, to resist, and to fight it is to hurt yourself.
2. Plants are the new plastic
This interesting article in the Guardian.
3. Listening to
This beautiful song that reminds me of South Africa.
4. On isolation
Would quite happily isolate here for the next pandemic.
5. Intermittent Fasting
I’m incredibly late to this party, mainly due to the fact that I absolutely love food plus the thought of skipping any meals makes my body scream ‘DON’T YOU DARE DEVELOP AN EATING DISORDER FFS’.
Anyhoo, all I seem to read about lately are the apparent health benefits of intermittent fasting so I gave it a little 4 week trial.
It’s hella easy to do when you’re working from home, not sure how feasible this would be for me once I start commuting again but for now it’s been pretty easy to incorporate into my daily life.
I don’t overcomplicate my strategy because life its complicated enough. For now, I finish dinner before 8pm and I make sure that I only eat again after 12pm the next day. There are many different ways to fast but this one works for me.
Benefits for me over the last 4 weeks:
Better quality sleep
No more sugar cravings around 4pm
Loads more energy after 7pm which is usually when I’m ready for bed
Clearer skin
Deeper meditation sessions
Pretty excited about it if I’m honest.
