14. For Crying Out Loud, Just Act Natural Brian
Wall Art at Los Enamorados, Ibiza.
Heyyyyyyyyyy friends,
“In the end we are all the same.
We don’t make the best of what we have got.
You know, simple things.
The better life: you make it.”
A short and magical video (3.41) about life.
Here’s five more magical things.
1. Out of Office
Getting myself in the mood for my first holiday in a year (if you know me, then you will already know how completely out of character that statement is) by listening to this song, and this one.
Packing this book, and this one.
*chef’s kiss*
Scientists believe that living near the sea has health benefits.
I believe them.
2. Reading
Not just reading, I am devouring this book by Anne Lamott. 189 pages of pure joy and optimism. Exactly what we all need a bit of right now.
An Excerpt: Chapter 3: Humans 101
Almost everyone is screwed up, broken, clingy, scared, and yet designed for joy. Even (or especially) people who seem to have it more or less together are more like the rest of us than you would believe. I try not to compare my insides to their outsides, because this makes me much worse than I already am, and if I get to know them, they turn out to have plenty of irritability and shadow of their own.
Besides, those few people who aren’t a mess are probably good for about twenty minutes of dinner conversation.
3. A quote
Speaking of Anne Lamott, I’ve had this quote printed out and up on my wall for ages and am pretty sure it’s been subliminally influencing almost all of the decisions* I’ve made.
*including my recent decision to get rid of my car & start motorcycle lessons.
“Oh my God, what if you wake up some day, and you're 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written, or you didn't go swimming in those warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It's going to break your heart.
Don't let this happen.”
4. Paintings to linger over
How The Light Gets In - Robert Roth
5. Japanese Windows
Something aesthetically pleasing about these rounded-corner windows in Japan.
This instagram, and this hashtag are worth a browse.
See you next Sunday.
