12. Perhaps We Are All Immigrants
Somewhere over the old EU (miss you).
A few beautiful things worth mentioning this week.
1. Perhaps We Are All Immigrants
A poem by Rupi Kaur.
Rupi photographed for cereal magazine, volume 18. order here.
Short and sweet but incredibly moving.
perhaps we are all immigrants
trading one home for another
first we leave the womb for air
then the suburbs for the filthy city
in search of a better life
some of us just happen to leave entire countries
I really loved both of her books:
milk and honey
the sun and all her flowers
*here she reads a poem from one of her books to Jimmy Fallon
2. Listening
Loving these short podcasts called ‘Modern Love’.
Here’s one I listened to this week with Cheryl Strayed.
*if her name sounds familiar it’s because you’ve probably read her famous book which became a famous movie.
3. Meditating
I’ve been experimenting this month with guided meditation. It’s a change from my own self practise and I’m loving it.
*note: it helps that Sam has the most delicious voice I’ve ever heard.
and his short video on the meaning of life is just magic
4. Reading
This Italian classic by Italo Calvino.
Traveling, you realize that differences are lost:
each city takes to resembling all cities,
places exchange their form, order, distances,
a shapeless dust cloud invades the continents.
5. Cooking
Three Cheese Fried Pasta by Anna Barnett.
A non stick pan is essential when making this dish, m so you can achieve maximum crispiness and lose no pasta to the bottom of your frying pan.
PREPARATION TIME: 5-10 MINUTES | COOKING TIME: 12-15 MINUTES | FEEDS: 4
INGREDIENTS
450g spaghetti/linguine
60g pecorino - finely grated
60g taleggio – finely grated
60g manchego – finely grated
1tbsp freshly ground black pepper
Begin by bringing a large pan of salted water to the boil. | then add the pasta and cook as per instructions but only until very al dente | removing a couple of minutes prior to it being done | add 3-4 ladles of the pasta water to a large frying pan.|
Add in the cheeses + pepper and stir until you have a thick sauce, tong in the pasta and combine | turn up the heat, allow to turn a little crispy on the underside.
Serve once crisp.
