101. I Heard You In These Notes 🎵
Friends - SAWUBONA!
It’s Sunday.
Here’s three things you may find interesting and/or meaningful.
1. Women In Art 🎨
Fascinated by the creative process of Lumin Wakoa.
“Wakoa uses specific memories as the starting point for each painting, but then sands or scrapes down, reworks and makes the images anew. Throughout the process, her initial memory becomes clearer as the painting arrives at its final form. Wakoa writes down her memories in the form of poetry or short prose and returns to the same writings again and again for different paintings. It is unimportant for the viewer to to have access to the initial memory, as the paintings are left purposely open ended with a mix of intention and invention.”
2. Reading 📻
On listening to music with someone you love.
3. Not So Social Social 📵
Maintaining the social balance.
“Twitter and Facebook are the world’s biggest tabloids, and a big part of their business model involves convincing you that the world is more broken, angry, shocking and angst-ridden than it actually is in real life. And, as with my employee-relations example above, negative comments about anything are often more memorable: we all know how a media critic can come up with a short, clever, cutting remark about a dramatic work over his cup of coffee, and so devastate months of work of dozens of creative people. If you spend too much time with social networks, you can come away with a very negative view of life, and I think it’s important to keep a careful eye on that balance.”
See you next weekend.
